Masters World Cup Teams gearing up for the Playoffs

New Zealand has 10 teams flying the Silver Fern throughout the 11 divisions on offer at the Masters World Cup 2018. Teams have been digging deep playing in challenging conditions with temperatures reaching 45+ degrees Celsius. Results have been a mixed bag with plenty of goals and wins throughout. With five goals to her name, Maeve Morrison (W60+) is leading the way on the women’s side and Umesh Hari (M40+) with eight on the men’s. Pressure is starting to build with the tournament playoffs and finals due to take place over the weekend. The Masters World Cup concludes on Sunday 5 August.

Here are the standings heading into the final days of play;

Masters Women


Currently 5th. Final pool games against USA and England to play.


Finished 2nd in their pool and are playing Zimbabwe for 9-10th placing.


Finished 3rd in their pool. Playing off for 5-8th placings first up game against USA.


Finished 2nd in their pool and are now playing South Africa for 9-10th placing.


Finished 4th in their pool and are playing Netherlands for 5-6thplace.


Currently 2nd in their pool. Final pool game is against Netherlands.

Masters Men


Finished 4th in their pool. Next game is against Scotland playing for 9-12th placings.


Finished 2nd in their pool. Play England for 1-8th placings.


Finished 2nd in their pool and are now playing Ireland for 5-6th placing.


Finished 4th in their pool and are playing Argentina for 9-12th placings.

The Vantage Black Sticks Men are heading to Warkworth Showgrounds Reserve, Warkworth and Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga to play a combined four tests against Canada for the BDO Hockey Series this October!

They're about to head to the 2018 Odesha World Cup in November - you watched them on television at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, so don't miss them in your own backyard!

The first two games of the series will be held at the Warkworth Showgrounds Reserve in Warkworth on October 17 and 18, while the final two games will be played at Lloyd Elsmore Park over Labour Weekend, October 20 and 21. Game 1 and 2 will begin at 7:00 pm, with the weekend games scheduled for a 2:30 pm start. 

So come along, bring the family and make an evening of it. Watch the best hockey players from Canada (No. 11) and New Zealand (No. 9) battle it out! Tickets are cheap, with discounted family passes available. Children are free.
