Development Leadership & Physiotherapy


Hockey New Zealand’s vision is to be the World’s Best Hockey Nation.  The Hockey New Zealand Development programme supports the High Performance teams by developing Players and Coaches to win on the World Stage and by having the Right Players with the Right Coaches at the Right Time. An integral part of this development is the New Zealand U18 Men’s and Women’s programmes.

We are seeking lead physiotherapists for both the Men’s and Women’s teams.. These physiotherapists will be responsible for leading a player centred approach for nationally identified under 18 athletes.

To be successful in this role you must have high level of diagnostic skills, be able to establish quality management plans, communicate clearly, be willing to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of medical and coaching staff, and maintain clear and comprehensive medical records.

Experience working with sport / athletes is required (Hockey experience would be advantageous, but not essential) and post graduate qualification in physiotherapy preferred.

You will need to be a strong team player with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.

Hockey Manawatu
General Manager

Hockey Manawatu Incorporated (HMI) is one of the leading hockey associations in New Zealand with over 3,000 registered winter players and a summer competition which continues to flourish.

The HMI board are seeking a passionate, driven and commercially focused General Manager to lead our organisation and ensure it continues to be successful and have a sustainable future.

As General Manager you will be responsible for, and lead an existing passionate and dedicated team of 5 full and part time employees, with the recruitment of a new Regional Development Manager a key upfront task. 

You will also lead the organisation, with the support of the Board, through a period of exciting change with the third turf at Massey University coming onboard in the area and Hockey New Zealand proposing a number of changes in their Strategic Delivery Review.  A key part of this will be understanding the impact of the changes on HMI, addressing any challenges and more importantly seeking out opportunities.

Key attributes for the role will be strong operational and financial management skills, along with effective communication and promotional skills. Critical for success will be a demonstrated ability to build trust and interact with members and stakeholders within the Hockey community.

Other key attributes include:

  • Knowledge and experience of strategic planning and implementation
  • Relationship building with clubs, Hockey NZ and other stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational and presentation skills
  • Self-motivation and self-management
  • Ability to attract and gain Sponsorship and funding
  • Experience and exposure to the sports & recreation sector
  • Computer skills, including presentation preparation
  • Financial skills, including budget development and management
  • Manage and maintain relationships across the sports sector

This is a full-time position, with some evening and weekend work required.  A contract will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Wellington College looking for expressions of interest for 1st XI Boys Coach for 2019

Wellington College is the largest boys’ hockey school in Wellington and is seeking expressions of interest to become the 2019 1st XI hockey coach. The 1st XI consistently finishes in the top four of the local competition, has a strong history of achievement at the national secondary schools tournament and currently contains a number of boys who have represented Wellington at age group level.

We welcome applications from candidates who are passionate about coaching, the development of the skills and culture of Wellington College’s 2019 1st XI, as well as mentoring a group of committed young men.  Candidates are expected to have relevant coaching qualifications, playing and/or coaching experience.

For the right candidate, there is potential for WCHC to provide compensation commensurate with other similar hockey coaching positions.
