The Hockey New Zealand community team delivered some great development opportunities during the Pioneer Energy Women's Tri Nations in Cromwell.

During the series all three head coaches Mark Hager (Vantage Black Sticks), Paul Gaudoin (Australia) and Anthony Farry (Japan) conducted a panel which allowed participants to share their learnings and knowledge.

Local coaches also attended a three hour coaching course with specialist skills ranging from Small Sticks through to high school and club level.

The course was supported by Southern Hockey, Otago Hockey, and Hockey New Zealand and was facilitated by Mark Kake (Southern Regional Development Coach), Julia Boothroyd (Otago Hockey Development Manager) and Hockey New Zealand’s Community Coaching Manager Nicole Youman.

Alongside coach development, umpires also had some great development opportunities during the event.

Junior and secondary school umpires attended an umpire and mentoring course presented by Hockey New Zealand Technical Manager Colin French.

The course had a focus on building the umpire’s profile, confidence, and improving performance based on a simple model of three key pillars - Thinking, Moving and Communication.

Small Sticks umpires had their own course made up largely of those new to umpiring with discussions including the rules of hockey and interactive learning on positioning, whistling and signalling.
