The Junior Black Sticks Women (Under-21s) have won their five-game series against the Korea U21 Women.
Saturday’s 2-2 draw at North Harbour Hockey Stadium was enough to clinch the series for the Junior Black Sticks who finished with two wins, two draws and one loss.
The Kiwis were first to score in game five with Canterbury’s Olivia Merry delivering the opening blow.
Sophie Cocks scored the Junior Black Sticks’ second goal but Korea twice came from behind to hold on for the draw.
Head coach Chris Leslie is pleased with his side’s performance throughout the series, which was used as a warm-up opportunity ahead of the Women’s Junior World Cup in Germany in July.
“It has been a fantastic series. We didn’t have this sort of series leading into the last Junior World Cup. It has been a selection series as well so a great test for our players to see how they match against top opposition,” Leslie said.
“Players have been a bit nervous about selection I guess but they’ve put it out there and I’m confident we’ll come away with a pretty good side for the Junior World Cup.”
The final Junior Black Sticks Women’s team of 18 players for the Junior World Cup will be announced this coming week.
