Canterbury looking strong for the 2019 Ford NHL

Canterbury have named their sides for the 2019 Ford NHL, both sides will begin their campaigns on the 14th September as the Women will take on rivals Auckland and the Canterbury Men will take on Midlands.

Canterbury have named a strong side to contest the 2019 Ford NHL, looking to build on last years 5th place finish Canterbury have been able to call on six players with international experience for the Vantage Black Sticks. Their most experienced player will be Sophie Cocks who has managed to amass 115 caps for the Vantage Black Sticks Women and scored an impressive 28 international goals.

16thSeptember 3:30pm vs Southern 

In their first match, Canterbury will take on Auckland, last year when these two sides met Canterbury would come away with a 3-2 shootout win after the two sides couldn’t be separated in regulation time. Their other two pool matches will be against North Harbour who beat Canterbury in a shootout in 2018 and Southern who Canterbury beat 9-1 in 2018.

The Canterbury Cavaliers have named their initial 14-man squad for the 2019 Ford NHL campaign, still awaiting the availability of their Vantage Black Sticks, Canterbury have named a young side who will be looking to build on last years bronze medal. Experienced defender Brad Shaw with 192 caps for the Vantage Black Sticks Men will be looking to bring all his experience to this side as they look to navigate their way through a difficult pool.

Canterbury will face off against Midlands in their first match of the 2019 Ford NHL, last year when these two sides met it was Canterbury who came away with a tough 3-2 win. Next up on their schedule is Southern who will field a vastly different side to the one that was defeated 5-1 to Canterbury inn 2018. Their final pool match will see them take on North Harbour who narrowly defeated Canterbury 3-2 in the 2018 Ford NHL semifinal in Wellington.
