Coach Education

Hockey New Zealand is currently reviewing its Coaching Framework including formal coach education for coaches.

Currently coaches can access support through the HNZ Online Coaching Portal, Sport NZ Sport Tutor online learning tool, Association coach development opportunities, and Regional Sports Trust (RST) resources and opportunities.

Coaches are encouraged to contact their local association and RST to support their on-going development.

Hockey New Zealand Coaching Portal

Coaches can access free online coaching portal courses targeting Small Sticks, Youth and Club spaces.

If you are unfamiliar with the Online Coaching Portal, click here for the users guide.

All completed online courses are reviewed by the coaches local development officer that is selected at the completion of the online course.

Sport NZ SportsTutor

Sport New Zealand has developed a free online learning tool for the sports sector through Sport Tutor. Sport Tutor has been created to support, help and guide people working at any level of the sports sector, featuring e-learning modules, tutorials, templates, reference material, video, social learning environments and more.

FIH Academy Coaching Courses

The FIH Hockey Academy has been developed by FIH to support the development of a global hockey workforce. This includes providing a range of programmes, resources and tools in four key areas: Play, Coach, Officiate and Manage.

FIH Academy PRO League Coach Workshop Series

The FIH Academy will be holding 5 coaching workshops alongside PRO League. This is a great chance for coaches to improve their knowledge and competencies in specific areas of the game.The topics cover all the actions with and without the ball in all areas of the pitch.

Workshops are open to coaches of all levels and qualifications and have limited seats available.

Dates and venues are as follows:

  1. Defending: 25-26 April, Berlin GER, alongside GER v CHN (W) and GER v IND (M)
  2. Technical skills development: 13-14 June, London ENG, alongside GBR v GER (M & W)
  3. Attacking: 13-14 June, Valencia ESP, alongside ESP v IND (M)
  4. Penalty corners and Goalkeeping: 20-21 June, Amsterdam NED, alongside NED v GER (W & M)
  5. Hockey in the Circles: 27-28 June, Antwerp BEL, alongside BEL v NED (M)

FIH Hockey Academy Courses at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup – Malaysia

Following the postponement of the 2020 edition of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, announced today, FIH have decided to postpone the FIH Academy – Raja Ashman Shah Asian Hockey Federation Super course, that would be taking place in Ipoh, alongside this tournament.
