2019 Vantage National Under 21 Tournament
2019 has been busy for North Harbour Hockey. Two weeks after playing host for the final home match for the Vantage Black Sticks, the region will hos the Vantage Under 21 tournament. Beginning on the 5thMay the Under 21 tournament features some of the top rising talent throughout the country.
U21 Men’s Tournament
North Harbour will be looking to go for the three-peat in 2019 as they start the U21 tournament as the heavy front runners. The Harbour team features two Black Sticks Development squad members in Benji Edwards and recent debutant Xavier Guy. The other regions will be looking to knock North Harbour off their perch as they look for a weakness in North Harbours armor. Beaten finalists in 2018 Midlands have a Black Sticks Development squad member of their own in Reuben Andrews, the Midlands side have looked in good form in the lead up to the tournament and will be looking to improve on their 2018 finish. The competition looks wide open this year and any one of the 7 regions attending looks to be in with a chance to take the tournament out.
U21 Women’s Tournament
Defending Women’s campions Canterbury will be coming into this tournament full of confidence have had a really good lead up to the competition. They will be challenged by the other teams which feature a number of Black Sticks National Squad and Development players. North Harbour features an electrifying up and coming player in Kate Ivory. Having finished the 2018 competition in 3rdplace the Harbour Women will be looking to improve on this finish in 2019. Central has some stars in their squad which sees Hope Ralph and Holly Pearson featuring in what looks like an incredibly strong side. Pearson has recently been on Black Sticks duty and will look to bring this experience back to the Central team as the side looks to continue the good form that showed in 2018 across their Women’s programs.
