Hockey New Zealand will be entering teams across all age groups and genders where there is a suitable number and quality of players registering their availability. We are now seeking expressions of interest from players who wish to be considered for selection in a New Zealand team to compete at the appropriate event.  As part of the registration process, a non-refundable registration fee of $25 will be payable. This fee will be used to help offset the administration and associated costs of independent selectors during the selection event.

The main selection event will be the National Masters Tournament to be played in Wellington from 25 February to 2 March 2024. To be considered for selection, you must play at this event or have played at the 2023 National Masters Tournament in Tauranga. If you aren’t able to attend the National Masters Tournament and didn’t play in the Tauranga tournament but still want to be considered for selection, you’ll need to apply to Hockey New Zealand (masters@hockeynz.co.nz) for a dispensation.

Players selected for the World Cup will be required to arrive at the tournament location by the date listed above, stay in the Hockey New Zealand arranged accommodation (14 nights) and pay the costs associated with the event. The full Event Brief for Cape Town can be found here and for Auckland, here.

The budget for these events haven’t been finalised, however preliminary indications are $2,900 for Cape Town and $3,300 for Auckland. Hockey New Zealand will do all it can to reduce this amount but prospective players should factor in this number into their plans. Travel arrangements to and from each event are the responsibility of the selected players and the costs are additional to the budget estimations above.

The teams to compete at the 2024 WMH World Cups will named within 10 days of the National Masters Tournament in Wellington and selected players will be required to make an initial deposit of $250 by the end of March 2024 to confirm their place in the side.
