New Zealand back on the road to Indoor World Cup

After an on again, off again build up, New Zealand are back on the road to the Indoor Hockey World Cup.

With the current global environment more settled, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) are pleased to confirm New Zealand as part of the FIH Hockey Indoor World Cup South Africa 2023 which will be staged in Pretoria, at the Heartfelt Arena from 5 to 11 February 2023.

Tama Jones, HNZ Community Manager, said “we’re really excited about the reintroduction of our indoor programme and for New Zealand athletes to compete at a pinnacle event such as the Indoor World Cup. Indoor hockey provides an additional opportunity to engage more New Zealand athletes, coaches and officials while also developing unique skills and tactics that contribute to better balanced athletes.”

Lead Coach Reiner Vellinga is also excited to finally be getting back on track after delays due to Covid.

“Indoor hockey is an exciting variation of the game we all love. It’s fast paced, attractive to watch, and will challenge our players on all facets of the game.

“Going to the World Cup in South Africa provides great opportunity for our top indoor athletes to represent their country and to be competing against the best in the world. It’s an exciting time ahead of us and I am very much looking forward to seeing the gains we can make over the next few months.”
