Wellington to host nation’s largest hockey tournament

Hockey New Zealand is thrilled to announce that Wellington will host the 2024 Vantage National Hockey Masters tournament from February 25 – March 2.

The core of the event will take place at the National Hockey Stadium in Newtown, bringing together the hockey masters community for a week-long celebration of the sport.

The 2023 Vantage National Hockey Masters tournament saw over 90 teams come into Tauranga from around the country, with more than 1,500 players participating in various age groups, ranging from 35 to 70+ years, as well as a number of volunteers.

Ken Maplesden, Head of Community and Events at Hockey New Zealand, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event: “The 2023 tournament in Tauranga was a fantastic display of the passion and community in masters. We cannot wait to bring that same energy to Wellington for the 2024 event.”

Warrick Dent, General Manager Events & Experience WellingtonNZ, shared their excitement: “We are delighted to welcome the Vantage National Hockey Masters tournament to Wellington in 2024. We look forward to welcoming the masters’ players to Wellington, to show their skills on the field and to enjoy everything the city has to offer. Events such as this not only contribute to the local economy, but also continue to promote Wellington as a premier sporting event destination.”

With an expected influx of players, supporters, and spectators, the 2024 Vantage National Hockey Masters tournament is set to deliver a significant boost to the Wellington region’s economy, further cementing its reputation as a world-class sports event host.

HNZ, alongside WellingtonNZ and hosts Wellington Hockey, is committed to ensuring that the tournament is an unforgettable experience for all involved.
