Tireless volunteer acknowledged for contribution

Bridget Kerkin, a tireless worker who puts the needs of others before her own, has been recognized for her exceptional contributions to the Wellington hockey community. This year, Bridget took on the role of Junior Convenor for Hutt United, Wellington’s largest club, despite having no children of her own in that age group. Her determination to improve the administration of the junior club earned her the Healy Trophy for most valuable club member and the Wellington Hockey Volunteer of the Year award.

She recruited three junior grade convenors and led them through a review and update of the structures, policies, systems, and processes for the junior club. Her efforts have resulted in positive feedback from parents, players, and volunteers about the improved operation of the club and the effectiveness of communication. She also managed three adult teams, one men’s and two women’s, making herself invaluable to the coaches.

Bridget’s expertise in designing the club’s QR code registration system supported by an airtable system has made it simpler for all players, making the transition to Play HQ easier. She is also the club Play HQ expert and has written instructions for all coaches and managers, ensuring they can operate the new system with ease.

Apart from her administrative and technical skills, Bridget is a great hardworking committee member focused on good processes, fair policies, and good governance. Her interpersonal skills are also amazing, making her a big contributor to HUHC.

Despite her busy schedule, Bridget continues to support her own child and the teams he is in, including the HVHS 1st XI and the Wellington U18 rep team. She lives the Hockey NZ values and has put an incredible amount of dedication into growing the game and providing meaningful experiences for all players.

Bridget Kerkin’s contributions to the Wellington hockey community have not gone unnoticed. Her tireless efforts and dedication to the sport have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and the community at large. Wellington and NZ hockey owes a great debt of gratitude to her.
