A Wrap On The Premier Hockey League for 2024
Saturday 7th December marked the final day of the 2024 Premier Hockey League at North Harbour Hockey Stadium in Auckland. Four matches held over one day, determined the final placings and ultimate champions in both the Men's and Women's leagues.
The day's action kicked off with the Women's Bronze Medal Final, where the Alpiners came out firing on all cyclinders putting away 3 goals in the first 10 minutes. Despite a one-goal comeback by the Mavericks in the 21st minute, the Alpiners maintained their momentum and secured a convincing 6-1 victory to take the Bronze.
Following the women's match, the Men's Bronze Medal Game provided fans with close contest. The game saw the Tridents clinching the win, scoring in the final minutes to edge out the Mavericks with a 4-3 scoreline.
In the Women's Gold Medal Final, the Falcons showcased their season’s dominance, defeating home team, the Tridents, with a solid 5-1 victory. Winning the gold was a reflection of a dominant season for the Falcons.
The grand finale of the day was the Men's Gold Medal Match, which was simply exceptional hockey. A phenomenal showdown for the fans in what was neck in neck at 4 apiece until the final three minutes of the match in which top goal scorer, Sam Lane scored. The Alpiners coming out on top 7-4.
Over the past six weeks, the Premier Hockey League has provided hockey enthusiasts across New Zealand with a series of action-packed matches. The league featured weekly games held at various venues nationwide, giving fans the opportunity to witness the country's most elite players compete at the highest domestic level.
